1. Mod. 2097 by Gino Sarfatti

Mod. 2097 chandelier in living room

Designed in 1958, the Mod.2097 chandelier is an ultra-modern representation of the classic mid-century traditional chandelier. The chandelier holds 30 to 50 incandescent bulbs emitting indirect light on a steel structure, available in brass/chrome plating and two sizes. Gino Sarfatti is known for his contribution to the modern architectural movement in lighting. The Mod. 2097 chandelier pendant light is a great example of his utilitarianism and his overall obsession of creating humble yet incredibly effective pieces of lighting.

2. AIM by Bouroullec Brothers

AIM black in living room

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec wanted to keep the core essence of the lamp they created limited to the source of light and its cord. The AIM ceiling light does just that and therefore appeals to any kind of setting it is placed in not only because of its shape but also because it is designed to conveniently "aim" light at specific locations. The long cables can be adjusted to allow the fixture head and light distribution to be aimed. The cable has a total length of 29 ft 5 inches (9m) allowing the lamp to be suspended up to 9 ft 8inches (3m) from the ceiling.

3. String Lights by Michael Anastassiades

String Lights in Living Room

"When I sit on a train traveling, I always see these strings of electricity out of the window. It's so beautiful and poetic the way they connect the pylons but at the same time they divide the landscape. I wanted to translate this into interior architecture." - Michael Anastassiades

The designer's inspiration for this piece comes from electricity lines, which makes a gracious transformation in your living room. You can arrange how the fixtures hang to suit your space. The on/off switch is electronic with optical mechanism, and along with the dimmer is operated via a free Bluetooth Android and Apple app.

4. Taraxacum 88 by Achille Castiglioni

Taraxacum 88 above dining table

Castiglioni created the "Taraxacum" in 1960, and the original design contained bulbs hidden under a transparent diffuser. In 1988, the design was revamped into a mixture of deep incandescent lighting adding cool, polished triangular aluminum features. Marking the year of its new design the "Taraxacum" was re-named the "Taraxacum 88". At the core of this Achille Castiglioni designed decorative hanging light fixture, "It is a bit of a blow to energy-saving but a big chandelier is meant for community areas, lobbies and rooms that need a lot of light for special occasions and so it also needs to be decorative.", as put by Castiglioni himself. The name "Taraxacum" comes from the scientific word for the very common plant -- the dandelion. Castiglioni has managed to encapsulate the very shape of a dandelion in this modern pendant light design.
