FLOS’ Booth Shines at 2015 Euroluce and Salone del Mobile

Most visitors seemed to agree that the FLOS stand at the annual Salone del Mobile was in a league of its own.

In a space covering over 1,000 square meters, conceived as a "mega art gallery" with a hidden sculpture garden, FLOS introduced new lamps by the following lighting designers: Michael Anastassiades, R. & E. Bouroullec, Antonio Citterio, Piero Lissoni, Jasper Morrison, Philippe Starck and Patricia Urquiola in this space, together with the latest new architectural products, and products from Ares, the outdoor lighting company that was recently acquired by FLOS.

A poetic and theatrical exhibition, the booth space was created by designer and artist Ron Gilad, who also has designed lighting for FLOS in the past.

About his design, he explained that "[t]he overall feeling is like that of entering a museum space and experiencing an installation where each lamp is conceived as a sculpture created by an artist. A sculpture with an extra value: its ability to function, illuminating not only our mind or soul, but also our physical environment."

He continues, "Traditionally, when presenting lamps, they tend to be encapsulated in intimate rooms and spaces so that they are isolated from the environment, and the main focus is on the quantity and quality of the light they emit. Here I have taken a certain risk, as I have let their light flow through the spaces. For example, the light of Starck's lamps starts to bleed towards the light of Urquiola’s, the Black Line illuminates a part of Jasper’s, while the light of Jasper’s is reflected onto the Bouroullec’s lamp, and so on. You can still appreciate the quality of the light of any individual lamp, but in a more organic way. However, it is not just a question of what a lamp is technically capable of, but of its emotional side as well: its shape, materiality, proportions and how it stands or hangs and influences a space."
